The expansion and renovation by SOM bolstered the city's profile as an international conference destination while reconnecting a historic district to the waterfront. The design incorporated innovative sustainability measures, including complex fluid dynamic modelling and energy management systems.
A new soaring glass facade suspended from a classic shell-form roof caps the building, illuminating a grand entry sequence and establishing the venue as an international icon. A series of large, glazed windows provide views of the city's parklands from the lobby and other public areas.
The redevelopment included a significant overhaul of the ACC's audio systems, with Meyer Sound systems being augmented or replaced in all seven halls.
